Will Work At Home Ruin Company Results?

Ninety percent of NEC employees in Japan will work at home at least one day a week starting today.

More than 70 per cent of the managers participating in NEC telecommuting trials that began two years ago this month responded that working at home improved employee productivity, prompting the firm to implement a full-fledged program.

In fact, telecommuting is sweeping the electronics industry in Japan. IBM Japan Ltd. introduced the option in 2001. In April 2007 Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. sent 3,000 employees home and now has around 30,000 working from home at least some of time.
